What age to change from crib to toddler bed?

I have a 20 month old and he doesnt like to go to bed as is. .but what age did all of you nice people start putting your baby’s is big kid beds?

Out of necessity (another baby coming) I put my son in a toddler bed at 18 months old. He did wonderfully and was able to climb in and out all on his own. Again… out of necessity lol I put my daughter in a toddler bed at 14 months old, she too was able to climb in and out though on her own.

How do you stain a baby crib? ?

My daughter has a baby crib that has a natural finish, and would like to stain it darker. We have sanded the wood, put on a wood conditioner, and applied stain, but the stain wipes right back off. How do we get it to stain dark?
I’m not laughing, it is frustrating! We bought Minwax, mahogany finish.
